BERGSILVESTER

The turn of the year lets Innsbruck shine!
The Bergsilvester in Innsbruck is setting new standards this year! International light artists give prominent building facades their very own signature and bathe them in a special light with innovative 3D facade projections! Be enchanted by fascinating shapes, bright colors and surprising effects and enjoy an unforgettable walk through the illuminated city!
On 30 December, a big children's New Year's Eve party with a colorful program invites the whole family to celebrate. New Year's Eve itself will delight with live music in front of the Hofburg and a spectacular fireworks display on the Seegrube. The program is complemented by an artistic and mystical production in Waltherpark, which takes up the traditions of the Rau(c)hnächte at various stations and extends the mountain New Year's Eve into the New Year.
4 facades - 4 artists - 9 days
They are some of the best in Europe: the artists who will be performing on Innsbruck's façades this year have been inspiring people all over the world with their pictures for many years. Under the artistic direction of Bettina Pelz, an internationally renowned curator of light and media art, each collective will design a unique installation for the façades of the Hofburg|Hofkirche, St. Jakob Cathedral and the Mariahilf row of houses. These installations are not only adapted to the architecture of the respective façades, but in some cases also refer to the history of the buildings, allowing the past and present to shine in a new light. This year, for the first time, the city tower is also being staged - and very special artists are at work here. Innsbruck primary school children created the light projections by illuminating the city tower with their drawings.
Experience the special façade design daily from 29.12.-6.1. from 17-22 hrs.
Cathedral of St. Jacob - Filip Roca and Zarko Komar (Sound)
The artist Filip Roca, known for his work at the renowned light festival "La Fête des Lumières" in Lyon, will present his work "Time" at St. Jakob's Cathedral in Innsbruck. His projection is based on a multitude of luminous particles that are constantly reforming. They are his symbol for time. The magiparticles become network structures that nestle against the façade. The architecture forms the compositional framework in which the passing of time is reflected. The soundscape is curated by Zarko Komar. This musical accompaniment invites a collective listening experience - a current impulse in an increasingly individualized society.

Mariahilf row of houses - François Schwamborn with Florian Schwamborn (sound)
With his work "Morphogenesis", light artist François Schwamborn transforms the famous Mariahilf skyline into an impressive naturaldruckscape. He has developed a performance whose color and form are based on organic processes of dispersal. What looks like water and ice, lichen and fungi, microbes and bacteria are artificially created organisms that spread across the historic façades on the banks of the Inn. Schwamborn's work invites viewers to experience the connection between city and nature in a new way and to see the fragile beauty of both worlds in a new light. Florian Schwamborn composed the perfectly fitting audio track.

Hofburg and Hofkirche - Detlef Hartung and Georg Trenz with Timber Hemprich (sound)
The artist duo Detlef Hartung and Georg Trenz stage the Hofburg and the Hofkirche with their work "Lebenswandel", which uses geometric shapes and optical transformations to depict movement, change and transformation. For the large-format animation, Hartung | Trenz use digitally modified typographic material from the "Univers" typeface by Adrian Frutiger, developed in the 1950s, and the Theuerdank-Fraktur from the 16th century, which Emperor Maximilian had developed for the Druck of his verse novel "Theuerdank".druEmperor Maximilian's richly illustrated verse novel "Theuerdank", first published in Nuremberg in 1517, was produced in a specially designed Dructype. This also creates a historical connection with the projected building. Emperor Maximilian, who once resided in the Hofburg, used the bookdruck as a sign of his prestige. The audio composition was created by overtone singer and e-composer Timber Hemprich.

City tower - Innsbruck primary school pupils
The façade of the city tower is celebrating a special premiere this year. It will be illuminated for the first time - and in a very special way. In a participatory campaign, Innsbruck primary school children are invited to creatively design the historic building by putting imaginative pictures on paper. These colorful works of art will be projected onto the city tower around New Year's Eve, making it shine in vibrant colors. In this way, the population is actively involved in the festivities and has the opportunity to be part of the city's staging.
